     Lydia Childs was born on 14 May 1765 at Melbury Osmond, Dorset, England.2,1 She was the daughter of David Childs and Mary Wellman.1 Lydia Childs was also known as Lydia Chiles.1 She married William Parker, son of John Parker, on 23 October 1785 at Melton Bubb, Dorset, England.2,1 She married William Lukus. She married Thomas Barber on 9 January 1802 at St John's Church Of England, Parramatta, NSW, Australia.3 Her married name was Barber. She died on 27 November 1838 at Parramatta, NSW, Australia, at age 73.2 She was buried on 29 November 1838 at St John's Church Of England, Parramatta, . Lydia's husband (William Parker) and their four children all died within months of each other--perhaps the result of plague. Lydia and William Parker's marriage had produced 5 children, four of whom died during the year following William's death. After William's death, Lydia would have found it hard to survive especially as it seemed that she spent most of the following year nursing sick and dying children. Records show she produced an illegitimate daughter Maria in 1795 and in 1796 she had her first prison stretch. Lydia's first brush with the law was on 14 Mar 1790 when she was charged with stealing. In 1796 Lydia was sentenced for stealing clothes. Her occupation was given as Silk Throwster and her age stated as 30. She got 2 years hard labour and was discharged on 13 July 1798. She was back in prison on 28 January, charged with stealing and sentenced to transportation for seven years. Lydia arrived in Australia on the ship 'Earl Cornwallis' on 12 June 1801. Also on board was Thomas Barber, a member of the NSW Corps. What happened to her two surviving children is uncertain for she was transported alone.2
