Descendants of John DYMOCK (1740-1816)
John Dymock married Margaret Lindsay Waugh, daughter of John Waugh and Jean Jane Lindsay. He was born in 1799 at England. He was the son of William Dymock and Helen Mclean. He was a lawyer like his father. He carried the professional post-nominal "WS" which stood for Writer to the Signet. The Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet still exists in Edinburgh. Originally, the Signet was the private seal of the early Scottish Kings, and the Writers to the Signet were those authorised to supervise its use and, later, to act as clerks to the Courts. The earliest recorded use of the Signet was in 1369, and Writers to the Signet were included as members of the College of Justice when it was established in 1532, but the Society did not take definite shape until 1594, when the King's Secretary, as Keeper of the Signet, granted Commissions to a Deputy Keeper and eighteen other writers. More info at www.signetlibrary.co.uk.1,2 He died in 1840. He was 41 when he died. Five years later his widow, Margaret, sailed with her 4 children to Australia on the 'Eliza' (600 tons) in 1845. The journey took 6 months. Her parents were already living at Terragong, NSW.1
