Realpolitik

Here are some examples of consistency in foreign affairs.
Cambodia: Australia does not recognise the current government of Cambodia. We will not - until there have been free and fair elections. Until then there is no direct aid from the Australian government to Cambodia.
Burma: Australia recognises the present government in Burma which was soundly and firmly defeated at free and fair elections but refused to give power to the winners. Australia still provides direct aid from the Australian government to Burma.
South Africa: Australia has direct aid to South Africa through a connection with the African National Congress which is not in government in South Africa. There has not been a free and fair election in South Africa, but evidently the Australian government can work out who would win.
